I am constantly being asked when the best and worst times are to visit Disney. Although this varies from person to person, if you would like to maximize the things you are able to see at Disney during your trip, you will want to follow these guidelines.
The best times to go to Walt Disney World are:
- Second week of January through third week of February. The weather is cool, but warmer than MN. This is one of the least busy times of year for Disney. Some rides will be closed for refurbishment. Avoid Holiday weekends.
- First three weeks of May. The weather is warm. Crowds are moderate. Memorial Day weekend will be more crowded, but often not as bad as you might expect.
- Late August and entire month of September (even Labor Day weekend). The weather will be hot. Crowds are low.
- Mid-November through mid-December (except the week of Thanksgiving). The weather is usually cool but pleasant. Attendance is usually moderate. Expect crowds on Saturdays, especially at the Magic Kingdom.
The worst times to visit Walt Disney World are:
- Third week of February through early April (or later, depending on the date of Easter). Easter week (the Saturday before Easter and the following week) is the second most busy time of the year at Walt Disney World. Easter day is generally quiet with low crowds. Holiday weekends in this time frame, such as President’s Day, are also exceptionally busy. Expect big crowds, but usually nice weather. A sweater is generally needed in the morning and evening hours. This whole period is peak time due to Spring Breaks, though there can be slower periods of a few days generally mid-week. Epcot's Flower and Garden show is going on for a portion of this and is sure to please the gardening enthusiasts.
- Midsummer (June through early August). Expect Disney to be very busy and extremely hot, with heavy humidity. To maximize your experience, plan on hitting the parks first thing in the morning. After lunch, take an afternoon break back at the resort swimming complex, then return to the park in the late afternoon/early evening. 11:00 am to 4:00 pm is the hottest part of the day and ironically the most crowded, too.
- December 26-31. This is the most crowded. Crowds get increasingly bad starting about December 20 running through the New Year. However, the parks are fun to see as they are decorated for Christmas.
- Other holidays. Among the other busy time periods are Thanksgiving week and any national holiday with a 3-day weekend (except Labor Day weekend and to a lesser extent Memorial Day weekend).
